Wine tour discovering (Rioja and Penedes) Special Tour

Arrival  to Madrid airport. Transfer in to the hotel.  Accommodation.

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning a local guide will show you Madrid  in a sightseeing visit.  After that  (around 11:30 AM)  you will begin the trip towards Logroño (La Rioja). We will stop at Gumiel de Mercado (Burgos) to have an informal lunch with 2 Ribera del Duero wines. Then we will continue towards Logroño. It was first settled in the fourth century on Monte de Cantabria (Mount Cantabria), which dominates the city today from the left bank of the river. Celtiberian settlements were established within the walled district before these strongholds were destroyed by Liuvigild in 575. In the sixth century, the city was established in what is now Logroño. Later on, in the eleventh century, the capital of the Rioja consolidated its importance through two major events: the fuero law or charter of Alfonso VI and the development of the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James). Over subsequent centuries, the city would develop its trade – wine production and river fishing – under the strong influence of the church and militia, which played an important role in urban life. During this period, the Plaza del Mercado (“Market Square”), also known as Plaza de Herventía, became popular as a meeting point for merchants and market stallholders. This is why the square is one of the most obvious sites for hosting culture and leisure events today. Arrival to the hotel and accommodation.

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning we will visit Logroño and one cellar in the town with an Local guide;. will walk the streets for the Camino de Santiago in the city apart from the four most representative churches of the city. It passes through the hub and Revellín Gate, Parliament of the Rioja, Barriocepo street, church of Santiago, Ruavieja street, church and palace of the Marquises of Monesterio, church of San Bartolomé and Portales street (Palace of the spire, Cathedral of La Redonda and Market Square). Then we will visit one the most representative cellar in the town. Free time to have lunch by your own (you can walk by your own trough Laurel street to taste the famous “pintxos”)

Early in the evening we will visit some places in the ST. Jacobs path: Santo Domingo de la Calzada (visit to the Cathedral included. (XII Century)); Nájera, where will visit  the Monasterio de Santa María la Real, the pantheon of the kings of Navarre, in flamboyant Gothic style and which highlights the cloister of the Knights (XV Century); and Cañas (Monasterio de Santa María del Salvador. XII Century) )

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning we’ll visit two important cellars in the village of  Haro: Bilbaínas Cellar and Regalía de Ollauri, where we’ll learn the way they elaborate their magnificent wines and we’ll also taste some of them. For this, we’ll need a short transfer by bus to Haro.

Internationally renowned for its wines, the city of Haro has much to offer in the way of tourism and culture, making it a favourite weekend or holiday destination for many. It is this mixture of culture, landscape and fine food and wine which makes a visit to our city an unforgettable experience.  Free time to lunch by your own in Haro. In the evening, return to Logroño.

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning (around 08:30 AM)  departure to Barcelona. In the evening we will have a sightseeing tour with a local guide. Accommodation.

Brakfast at the hotel. In the morning we will visit the Penedés Area. The wine area that gives name to the Denomination of Origin Penedès is among the provinces of Barcelona and Tarragona. The influence of the sea and the sun makes the Penedès area warm and soft and suitable for cultivation. With a more or less experimental character other varieties of known quality are grown: Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir. The climate is typically Mediterranean: soft, warm and bright. Most of the wineries of the Penedès work with the technical and the most advanced equipment for quality winemaking. In this area we will visit two of the most representative wineries: Vilarnau and Codorniu Cellar, where we will taste some of the famous wines. Return to Barcelona. Free time. Accommodation.
