Requena is located 65 km to the west of Valencia and has a very old tradition in wine making.
It is the capital of the prestigious Utiel-Requena wine area.
With an altitude between 550 and 900 meters above sea level, the Utiel-Requena region is bathed by the river Magro and is rich in underground aquifers. With sandstone and clay soils and continental climate with Mediterranean influence, receives 430 liters of rain per year and prevalence of sunny days. This is an ideal setting for wine production.
The cultivation of the vineyard has been part of our heritage vineyard since the dawn of time, passed on from father to son as his best treasure. Our area offers a good thermal oscillation day / night, hot days and cool nights due to the Mediterranean breeze that make our get a slow ripening grapes and achieve a good concentration of aromas and polyphenols.
We´ll have a wine tasting in a typical wine cellar from the beginning of the XX century.
This tour includes a walk within the Barrio de la Villa (old city) declared national collection of historic-artistic buildings with two gothic churches, a remnant of the Arab walls with a X century tower, the Alcazaba....
We will visit the caves located under the city from the XII century. In the subsoil of the Villa Neighborhood you’ll find the Caves de la Villa. The caves open for visits lie underneath la Plaza de la Villa and the majority of the adjoining houses.
They have had a long history of various uses, from safe havens in times of war, silos to store grain, mass graves and the most important; wineries for the development and conservation of wine.
