We will start the tour going to Sagunto.
Sagunto, the capital of the region of the Camp de Morvedre, is placed to the north of the province of Valencia, to the feet of a hill of the Saw Calderona. The surface of the municipal area is of 135,5 km2.
The city is understood by two urban nucleuses: Sagunto-city placed between the mount of the Castle and the river, and the nucleus of Sagunto's Port, developed between the coastal plain, close to the Mediterranean.
In Sagunto, we will visit the Roman theatre.
The Roman theatre of Sagunto dates from the first century and was a pioneer on the list of the national monuments declared in Spain (1896).
It is semicircular in shape and can seat 8,000 spectators. The stones of the steps were used to build the castle and some houses.
An archaeological museum gathers the objects found at the excavations. The Roman theatre was built within a dip in the land, which is why its open-air concerts have wonderful acoustics.
Recently, rehabilitation work has been done to provide a look of unity to the stage and the steps, making conditions adequate for theatre and cultural events.
In the way to the Roman theatre, we cross the Major Square and the Jewish district; this district has many narrows streets with whitewashed houses and different arches that communicated the routes and this formed an interesting landscape for take a walk.
Then, we continue to Grutas San Jose; situated in Vall d’Uxó.
There, in the visit to Grutas San José, you have the chance to get on a boat around two kilometres.
A cave for which the river passes San Jose, of 2.750 m of length with possibility of reaching 4 or 5 km, which would place it inside the World Catalogue of Big Cavities. It is an indescribable marvel, since in it an elegant artificial lighting to construct a world of fantasy in which the light, the forms and the colour acquire its maximum expression combines the capricious forms of the nature.
Human groups to establish their habitat also used the interior of the cave during the Prehistory.
At the entry of the cave, in which left part two groups of cave paintings can be observed, we find a corridor flanked by blocks where one finds the archaeological deposit in process of excavation Come to the pier, and furrowing the waters, we will contemplate the “Room of the Bats ", with a wide beach of sand.
