Las Palmas de Gran Canary is the capital of the island and of its province.
The oldest quarter of Las Palmas was called San Antonio Abad and later with its continued growth split into “Vegueta”.
Vegueta and San Antonio are located inside the first walls of the fort. Vegueta is the neighborhood foundational of the Spanish city of Las Palmas of Great Canary, the capital of the Canary island of Great Canary.
Vegueta's neighborhood was declared Historical Artistic National Set by Decree of April 5, 1973, and there is proceeded process of recognition of the historical center of the city (Vegueta and Triana's neighborhood) as World Patrimony.
Only a short ride outside of Las Palmas we will find the volcanic crater Caldera de Bandama. Bandama's Boiler is the result of a great explosion in Bandama's volcanic cone, happened 1970 years ago.
This boiler of explosion has approximately 220 meters of depth and a diameter of about thousand meters. It is placed to approximately 569 meters of altitude, and is one of the bigger boilers of explosion of Canaries. The Peak and Bandama's Boiler constitute a set of great scientific value; not uselessly they were declared by the Technological Institute Geominero of Spain as Point of Geological Interest. There different ashes and volcanic strata can be observed, as well as varied specimens of Canary flora.
The road climbs up to the top affording wonderful panoramic views of the coastline and the mountains of the central massif.
After that we will drive to Altavista from where you can enjoy an unforgettable image of Las Palmas.
