High on the Benacantil Hill, dominating the city, is the Castle of Santa Barbara, dating back to the 16th century.
From its top battlements there are spectacular views over the city and coastline. Continue on a panoramic drive to San Juan beach; enjoy a refreshing glass of Sangria while admiring the pleasant sandy beaches, which run into Campello.
Built in the baroque century is the Monastery of Santa Faz with a pyramid shaped dome. Inside the monastery you’ll find a relic brought from the Vatican in the 15th century which, as tradition, is actually a cloth used by Christ to dry his bloodied face during the Stations of the Cross.
Enjoy a guided stroll through the charming old quarter, nestling at the foot of the imposing castle. Visit the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas with its austere renaissance façade. Inside you’ll discover the magnificent 17th century nave and the lovely 15th century cloister.
You’ll also see the impressive 18th century baroque Town Hall, where your guide will tell you all of the details of its imposing exterior.
On the Spanish beautiful palm lined Esplanade you can sample the delicious local speciality first introduced in Alicante by the Moors ‘Horchata’, which is the sweetened milk of crushed tiger nuts.
You’ll have some free time here to do some shopping before returning back to the Port or Hotel.
