PRIVATE GUIDED VISIT TO THE AVILA’S WALLS.

Meeting point At 10.00 a.m. at the main entrance of Ávila’s Cathedral.
Description: The Ávila’s Walls are the best example of romanesque military architecture in Spain and the only model of the medieval European architecture. Its plan design is fundamental to understand a city that was military defence, sanitary belt, fiscal border and support of other architectures.
Walking around the walled enclosure we will discover the nine gates that let you get inside : The Fortress Gate, The Weight of the Flour Gate, San Vicente Gate, the Marshall Gate, The Carmen Gate, the Adaja Gate, the Misfortune Gate, the Holy Gate and the Market Gate. Each one with a different function and design.
We will also discover that the battlements on its walls are different in spite of the fact that they configure a homogeneous image. Our visit will be completed going up to the aldarve, from where we will be able to overlook the urban landscape formed by towers and the Ávila’s Mountains.
